Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote.com announced today that “12 new federal lawsuits were filed by 43 separate Catholic entities against HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius challenging the constitutionality of the new anti-freedom mandate.”
According to Burch, “Cardinal Dolan called the joint effort a “compelling display of the unity of the Church in defense of religious liberty.””
Close akin to Catholic outrage at President Obama’s indifference to the Constitutional protections of our religious freedoms come two Evangelical leaders openly opposing his support for so called, politically driven, anti Christian and culture dividing ‘same sex’ “marriage” idea, in direct opposition to all history and the Scriptures upon which he says he based his decision.
Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council, and Franklin Graham, President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, went public in their opposition in a letter to President Obama, asking pastors and Christian leaders to sign the letter with them. Perkins stated,
“The President’s announcement today that he supports legalizing same-sex marriage finally brings his words in sync with his actions. From opposing state marriage amendments to refusing to defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DoMA) to giving taxpayer funded marriage benefits to same-sex couples, the President has undermined the spirit if not the letter of the law.”
Graham, declared:
“In changing his position from that of Senator/candidate Obama, President Obama has, in my view, shaken his fist at the same God who created and defined marriage. It grieves me that our president would now affirm same-sex marriage, though I believe it grieves God even more.”
The institution of marriage should not be defined by presidents or polls, governors or the media. The definition was set long ago and changing legislation or policy will never change God’s definition. This is a sad day for America. May God help us.”
“May God help us” should be the prayer on the lips of all Catholics and Protestants in America and around the world.
For a President who spends most of his time raising money for his re-election, calling himself a Christian, and then raising the ire of both Catholics and Evangelicals, you would think he would recognize that he is risking alienating millions of Voters by these decisions, both of which have deeply moral, social, spiritual, educational, divisive, and judicial implications for all Americans.
It appears He, his campaign team and advisors, are all betting the ‘house’ that Americans have grown so weary of the issue and been so clearly pummelled and intimidated by the media and left wing attacks on anyone who opposes the not so ‘gay’ agenda, that we will forget about this come November.
I don’t think so. It will not be soon forgotten that he and his administration have been the most anti Christian, anti God ordained marriage, anti biblical family, and pro homosexual administration in our nation’s history.
