“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.”
Matthew 7:15-16
“Jesus was focused on spiritual matters at all times. Yet his presence often stirred political conflicts and his teachings frequently addressed earthly matters as well. In this passage he is clearly warning the faithful not to be deceived by people who say one thing, and do another, hypocrites and destroyers.
In this time of rage and confusion, we need more than ever the wisdom that comes from above, heeding good advice:
“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Matthew 10:16
The top priority for a Christian is the credible, love-filled witness to the Truth, the Gospel of salvation, available to all people, all the time, in all places. Jesus sends us out as sheep among wolves, counseling us to be shrewd and innocent. The goal is the harvest of souls and to be effective we must examine the fruit of individuals to determine if they are false prophets, ravenous wolves, or people of good will.
“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”
Matthew 7:6
A large part of our witness centers on our citizenship duties and our conduct in the public square. We dare not lose the moral high ground. Losing that ground is losing the entire contest. Even if infiltrators were present in D.C. January 6th—false prophets and ravenous wolves impersonating patriots to spark violence—our response should have been more forceful, endorsing peaceful protest, non-violent civil disobedience. Where were the spiritual leaders to temper the crowd? Why were matters allowed to spin out of control?
The actual tyrants in this drama are those who sponsored the violence and those who leveraged it to derail the joint session. Ample evidence points the finger at Antifa and members of various extremist groups and individuals using the event for their own anarchist purposes. Operatives were bussed in. Their marching orders: disguise yourselves, infiltrate, disrupt and if possible, spark violence in order to subvert any effort to examine election fraud.
The actual tyrants, the wolves, routinely get a pass to perpetrate violence as they did in the summer 2020 riots with the aid of mayors and state officials. Thus, the state allies with violent anti-American false prophets. Too many representatives of the state on both sides of the aisle cater to the wolves, openly or tacitly, advancing their agenda. And now we will have a President who serves the wolves by denigrating the patriots.
How weak our witness if we fail to confront this evil: weaker still our cause, if we fail to confront evil wisely and shrewdly. And most certainly, if we lose our innocence, becoming as callused as our adversaries, we face utter defeat.
This is not the time to surrender. This is the time to redouble our efforts to share the Good News, fight the good fight, and to do so with pure hearts and wisdom, knowing that one wolf can scatter an entire flock so long as the sheep ignore the Shepherd. The fight for truth and righteousness is never over. So long as the Deceiver spreads anger, fear and chaos, there will be a need for the Great “I Am” to sort us out, and upon that, we can rely.”
Pray
-
That we heed the call to be wise in our response to evil
-
To confront evil with Biblical Truth, wisely stated and clearly put forth to the Body Of Christ, local, county, state and federal elected officials who are charged to protect our God granted rights, under the U.S. Constitution, and do so respectfully in the LOVE of Christ
-
That we relate our concerns in contemporary terms yet grounded and revealed in the eternal Word of the Living God
-
That we clearly state the issue, the problem or challenges it creates, and a corrective solution based on the wisdom and truth of Scripture
-
That we make our appeals in love and compassion for the lost and deceived
That we make our appeals and petitions to the Body of Christ in the area affected by the evil, and then to our elected officials in groups of 3 or more, verbally and in writing -
We never threaten or suggest reprisal if they do not receive our appeal as is the habit of unbelievers
-
After presenting our appeal, we watch, pray, and communicate to the Body of Christ, our neighbors, and other concerned citizens what we are proposing can and should be done by those we elect to represent us
-
That we believers follow up our appeals with a plan of action that is honorable
“Our cause is noble; it is the cause of mankind!”
