The Necessity Of Light On Our Path

Merrily recently shared with me that when she was a child, she was afraid of the dark. It is not unusual for children to be afraid of the dark of night and climb into bed with Mom and Dad.  It is most often what they imagine lurks in the darkness that frightens them.  Neither is it unusual for single women in America, to be fearful at night.  It is in the darkness of night they feel the most vulnerable to evil in the hearts and minds of fallen men.

That vulnerability to the fear of the unknown and what may lie ahead is a major factor in this election year.  Unenlightened men in rejecting the light of life have, with our silence, foolishly ensnared and enslaved us all in the folly of their errors.  Believe me, there are no messiahs to deliver us, only men who either seek to honor the living LORD and glorify Him in their service, or those who serve themselves in their ambition to receive the plaudits of men rather than the approval of God.

When our fear of an eternity without God should drive all men to repentance, we are driven instead by our earthly fears.  It drives many to run quickly to those who embody and espouse in their words a false messianic hope of prosperity and safety when there is little evidence that the light of which Jesus spoke, is in them.

John the Apostle under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote that Jesus was God, the ‘light of men‘ and ‘in Him‘ there is ‘no darkness‘ whatsoever.  His words are life and peace, not as the world giveth, but as only God grants to those who yield and surrender their lives and future to Him.

Words are how we communicate with each other. They either reflect darkness, (that which is evil,
untruthful, unproductive, harmful, and  destructive), or light (that which is manifestly good, encouraging, inspiring, and a manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit) which guides our steps and enlightens our way.  It is God Who is their author, not man.

When men ignore the ‘light’ of Christ as revealed in His eternal Word, the light that is in them is darkness.
“The entrance of thy words giveth light.”

May Christians in America who vote in the Tuesday election and those thereafter through June 7th, follow the light that was manifest in Christ, in Whom is no darkness, before they cast their votes.

Daniel Webster, in a speech given to the Ladies of Richmond, Virginia on October 5, 1840, Said…

“Impress upon your children the truth that the exercise of the elective franchise is a social duty of as solemn a nature as man can be called to perform; that a man may not innocently trifle with his vote; that every elector is a trustee as well for others as himself and that every measure he supports has an important bearing on the interests of others as well as on his own.”
