Religious Liberty Is Threatened by the State of Oregon
On December 26th The Oregon Court of Appeals upheld an Oregon administrative law judge’s decision that forced two Christian bakers to pay $135,000 to a lesbian couple who said they felt “mentally raped” when the bakers declined to make a wedding cake.
The Kleins, who owned Sweet Cakes By Melissa, in Gresham, Oregon, made national headlines in 2013 when they declined to make a wedding cake for Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer.
The lesbian couple filed a complaint with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries – leading to a drawn-out court battle and tens of thousands of dollars in fines. The Kleins were forced to shut down their family-owned business after the fine was levied.
The Kleins attorney said the State of Oregon then “raided the Klein family’s bank accounts and took the money. They wiped out their bank accounts, and even took money the family had set aside for tithing in an account named ‘God’s Money.'”
Does the First Amendment still protect religious freedom and the freedom of speech? Do newly created “sexual liberty rights” trump the U.S. Constitution? Is it now legal for GLBT activists to “legally” discriminate against, target, and destroy dissenters businesses and personal lives?
Beware, Oregonians. Oregon state government thinks recent knighted ‘sexual rights’ takes precedence over your God granted conscience rights. If we do nothing, we will have acquiesced to the radically driven and self righteous intolerance of the LGBTQ community. THAT DOES NOT NEED TO HAPPEN!
