On May 18, 1965, I entered the Naval Air Station at Pensacola, Florida, “The Cradle of Naval Aviation” to begin Navy flight training. After two tours to Vietnam serving onboard the USS Hancock (CVA 19), I was released from active duty July 23rd, 1969.
Both my father and uncle served in the Marine Corp in World War II. My uncle Veral survived the Bataan Death March and spent the entire war in a Japanese work camp. He weighed 70 lbs when recovered by Navy Seaman on the West Coast of Japan after the Japanese guards walked away from the camp after the Japanese surrender.
Years later, as my son Taylor (below photo) and I were in Washington D.C., I found Mike Webb’s name on the Vietnam Memorial. Mike was 18 when he graduated from Springfield High School, my alma mater. He went into the Army and was killed in Vietnam at the age of 20. Broken hearted after his mother committed suicide when he was 17, he placed his trust in Christ. I look forward to seeing Mike in Heaven along with many other friends who gave up their lives that we might remain free.

As those who served in Vietnam returned home, before, and after the war ended, thousands were spat upon and cursed by the deluded same self-righteous and troubled joiner types we see protesting Israel’s right to eradicate a barbarous terrorist organization who have refused every effort to placate their hatred, to no avail, murdering hundreds if not thousands of Jews over the decades since Israel was founded in 1948.
War is hell, not just for those who fight, but for those who came home maimed and disabled for life. It has left 100’s of thousands of families behind with memories of sons and daughters, husbands and fellow service men lost, who try to recover from their personal grief and loss.

How soon we forget in just a few generations the men who served and gave their lives at Pearl Harbor, Iwa Jima, Guadalcanal, Leyte Gulf, the Coral Sea, Corregidor, Midway, Bataan, the Chosin Reservoir, and Inchon ,… 32 in all, in the Pacific; not to speak of Normandy, Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, and many more in Europe.
